Wow, sorry that I haven’t written in a while… am hoping to get some students to start some dialogue here… we’ll see what I can do.

adding fractions

we are continuing our exploration of rational numbers by working on adding (and subtracting) fractions and mixed numbers…

Today was Workout Wednesday… working out for MAP — I hope the students who are working hard continue to show great effort on the MAP and those that aren’t giving their best — hopefully they will have a turn of heart and start showing more effort.

remainder, what remainder?

we reviewed the purpose of a remainder within a story problem…

do we need to round up because of the remainder?
do we need to keep the remainder as is?
do we need to write the remainder as a fraction?
do we need to ignore the remainder?

Workout Wednesday

We had a strenuous workout Wednesday that will spill over to Thursday (sorry, couldn’t come up with some catchy adjective to use with Th).

We’ll continue to review ordering and comparing positive rational numbers as well.

Today we DEFINED Rational Numbers — students had worked with this set of numbers quite a bit the last few days… we defined them as well as explained the meaning of “equivalent representations” in hopes that my kiddos don’t get tripped up simply on vocabulary for the MAP test.

Fractions, Decimals, and Percents

students have been testing, testing, and testing… trying to get ready for MAP testing…

we have taken PRE-tests, and Benchmarks, Progress Monitors, MCAPS and CBMs…

they have done great! They are still trying… and still putting forth their best!

We will continue to learn about fractions, decimals, and percents… and more…

I’ll keep you updated — as I did before Winter Break… sorry that I haven’t kept up as well. I promise… I’ll keep you up-to-date.

We’ve been working, this week, on a MAP Practice Test from the Buckle Down company. We’ll continue to work on MAP prep, as well as, reinforce fractions and operations on fractions.

The students had an opportunity today to record document camera movies showing how to find the GCF using the PF with VD (haha, finding the Greatest Common Factor using the Prime Factorization of numbers with a Venn Diagram)

We’ll also record tomorrow too!
